What a great day. I have been off the water for a while, I know I whined about it before I left... Anyway, Wyatt and I got out before the sun today. Took some time to catch bait. Don't know if it was the moon being so bright or what but it was a struggle. Finally got enough to get started and I was exhauster from throwing the cast net. Went east and started a drift that ended up lasting all day.
The drift was about 3 miles. I started about 9:00am and pulled the last rod about 2:00pm We were running steady about .5 or .6. When the wind came up we would go .7 when it would slack off we were at .4 but pretty consistent drift. First hour was slow but after that the action picked up and was steady about 4 fish an hour. Ended up with 3 or 4 eaters and 8 overs. Smallest over was 11 pounds. Lots of teeners and a 24 for big fish of the day.
Easy day just catching fish on one long drift. Didn't have to pull up and move all day. Surface temp was 56 degrees. Wind was good. Kept us below .7 all day. Bait was some cut and some small shad. 3" and they did the job. Got the 24 on a half of a 3' shad!
Good day today. Might get a chance to try again tomorrow.
