Far casting rod selection 50-100yd - 07/05/21 07:16 AM

Its for freshwater fishing spinning lures?

Need to find perfect specs for rod to cast 50-100yd.

1. What lure weight can fly that far?

2. What length of the rod, lure range and action?

Never fired lures with them but have slung some huge cut shad and 2-4 oz weight with Okuma longitudes, primarily 11-12'rs

That question would be better suited for the "Bank Fishing" section. Lot of tailrace guys in there that would be more helpful as to specifics.

7.0 foot Shakespeare Ugly Stik, Inshore rod, 1/8 to 1/2 oz. lure medium light 6-15# line.
I don't know if you'll get that distance with a 7 foot rod, other than going with a 12 to 14 foot surf rod for some serious distance as you want.

A carp rod will do what you're asking. If you're really trying to hit the 100yd mark, you'll need at minimum a 10ft rod though a 12footer will do it easier. The make of reel will impact casting ability as will line selection.

The length of the rod makes a difference but proper technique plays an even bigger part. There are things that you can do with even just a 7-foot rod that can get you that kind of distance. If I need distance I let out the line until it is nearly touching the ground when the rod is almost straight up. I swing the weight back and then when it is almost parallel to the ground stick straight out behind me I bring it on. As the line goes over my head the 7 foot of rod and 7 foot or more of the line gives me the effect of a LOOOONG rod and really sends it out. I was raised near the coast and perfected this so that I could cast out past the second sandbar and gut during the cold months fishing for redfish. I live on Livingston now and can throw a long way for catfishing using that technique standing on the bow platform of my boat.
