I hate Eagle Mountain

Not sure why i have such inconsistent trips out there. Yesterday was not different.

Went out with the mind set of using bigger baits and just fishing. Drifted both south of the island, and my typical areas north of the island. First drift I some how got a 10" dink on a 8/0 and a 4" wide piece of cut shad. Then managed a nice little 10 lb blue. Must have had a billion little fish bites with only a few (I would say 4) quality take downs. Stayed mainly deep 24-26' of water, but all flats where close to rocks and good spawning areas. Even made a short drift through 10' of water to see if anything was up there.

I guess im just lost out there for anything consistent. Gonna have to stop hauling the tin boat out there and take the bass boat more often.

But on a side note, the planner boards that I built home made worked great to spread my drift out.

Are you marking fish? Hitting the ledges of the island flat? I'd be looking over shallow mud flats as the sun comes out, also.

Thursday, they were stacked like cord wood, right in front of the ramp at Twin Points, all throughout the entire cove. Didn't catch any monsters, but caught over a dozen in the 3 to 8 lb range.

Marking tons of fish. What looked like Sand bass and catfish. Tons of bait out there too. I was mainly making my drifts on the flats just south of the island and the area from the island to anglers club . Also have always picked up a few from party cove going north.

Had lots of ankle biter hits, but very few good take downs.

Haven't drifted that part of the lake in a long time. May have to put in down south and give it a go, Used to get bit pretty regularly from the jetty at Lauderdales drifting north towards the pump station

On the Tennessee River, everyone is downsizing their baits and fishing shallow. At least that is what I see on my YouTube lists. This could be the third weekend in a row my marina is flooded due to the water release by G dam.

Did you keep your baits on bottom or did you try to keep a bait mid depth? I often get my bigger fish keeping my bait 12 to 16 feet deep.

Nice post. A slow day makes the good days a whole lot better! thumb

I was running Sante Cooper rigs. with about 3' leaders so the baits were off the bottom i would think a ft or so with a .5mph drift.

When I run jug lines I like to have two hooks on twelve feet of line at 3 and 6 feet from the weight which is pretty far from the bottom a lot of the time. Caught many big ones with the top hook six feet from the surface. When I drift fish I often run big bobbers set up slip style and with my bait 6 to 12 feet below them. Blues seem to run at the same depth sand bass cruise at. Just saying Catfish are not always on bottom.

Try a windblown bank up shallow. You might be suprised what you catch.

When the wind is right, the cat tails in the cove across from Augies are also a good go to, when the water is warming up like it is now. The sunken timber also.
