Lewisville 3-27

Got out for a short evening trip with Action Jaxon.. Fish werenā€™t where I was hoping they would be so we pulled boards along a shoreline contour in 12 ft. We only caught 4 fish but one was a pretty decent Flatheed. First Yella Cat of the year and Jaxonā€™s first one ever. He couldnā€™t budge the fish so dad had to help. [Linked Image]

That kid has seen more big catfish than most people will see in a lifetime. Great memories. thumb

Thanks Amigos! cheers These two were so dang happy to meet each other they both couldnā€™t quit smiling I tell ya! Like two long lost buddies. Nothin better than watching your son grow into a little angler and start to share the same love for catching big fish that I had as kid. I didnā€™t really get going good on big catfish until I was 15 though. Jax is light years ahead of me. [Linked Image]

Wow! Now I know it's spring when the flattys start coming out to play! Man I'd love to boat one of those. Unfortunately, with the Bass Tournament yesterday on Lavon, the shore lines and shallows were hard to get to. We started mid depth and even tried deep for a while. You sir are awesome! Jax doesn't know how good he's got it. One day he will look back and realize how lucky he was to have you share your passion with him. If he's like my Wyatt, when it's really cold and windy, he's not real excited about going fishing but he goes anyway. The chance to hook up on a good fish like that is always there. I still feel like a kid when that rod doubles over.

My best to you both brother. Thanks for sharing as always...

Thanks amigos! Next time we fish Lavon Iā€™m gonna hit you up Tim and weā€™ll try and put the boys on something good. It will probably be in the fall though.

Those Flattys pull like you hooked a movie chair Tim! There used to be tons of yellacats in my lake but they were wiped out by the jugers and trot line guys years back.

Lewisville has been hosting the Bassmasters tournament the last couple of years out of Lake Park where I put in so I know what ya mean. 300 boats competing and a 1000 boats tagging along watching them fish and hoping to learn some new spots. Every shoreline had at least 5 boats lined up waiting to troll through and fish it and 10 boats setting out deep spectating. I couldnā€™t believe those guys would line up 1 right after the other and fish the exact same shore line as the guy before them.

The water had warmed up to 64 yesterday in the main lake so I imagine the shallows are 70+ and holding most of the good fish right now. At those temps I would normally be up shallow looking for Threadfin spawning but with the limited amount of time we had to look I figured I try out my shoreline contour drift Iā€™ve been having a lot of luck with this year. I marked most fish either on the contour or right up next to shore in 2 ft or less. The Threadfin pattern will start to really get going up shallow now.

Thanks again for following me and my son on our journey to Catville, USA.

Great Catch!!! Estimating, it looks to be between 20 & 30#s. Congrats!!! Tell him to be careful if he hooks one over 50#s. If not careful & alert, they can & will take you out of a small boat. They have tractor drive, for sure.
