First time using Stubbys bait

First time using Stubbys bait - 03/15/21 04:35 PM

Ordered some bait from Stubby about a week and a half back and the process was easy and service was superb, and delivery was fast. Mr Stubby was very informative and a pleasure to speak with. this past weekend the wife and I hit Lake Murvaul and spent the day slip corking the rip rap along the dam with range cubes being deployed. I have used many different types and brands of catfish bait over the years with good success from CJs, SSS, Danny Kings, Secret 7 ect I have caught fish on all of them, I can now add Stubbys to that list. Saturday the fish were not biting very aggressive they were mostly just pushing the bait around, so we missed a lot of fish to start with so we switched up to #6 trebles and down sized our bait offering and that upped our hookup ratio. We still had a lot of misses due to small fish but managed to get about twelve in the 2.5 to 3.25 lb range. We ended up using a full container of bait to get those 12 fish due to the light bites and small fish hitting it. The wife and I both agreed that Stubbys bait worked well and was definitely not as messy as the others mentioned. I think if the fish had been more aggressive, we would have put more in the boat. We have just had one outing with Stubbys bait so we cannot say that it catches better than the others we have used, but being less messy and having a less rank smell definitely puts it in the "will use again" category. Looking forward to further trips using Stubbys bait. We will be ordering more in the near future.

Jettyrat, I agree that you can catch fish on the baits you mention in your email. In regards to Stubby's, I have used it for several years now and in my experience, it has never failed to put channel cat in the boat when some of the other baits have failed. I have also caught Blue's with it. When the fish are active, they will hit anything, but when they are inactive, Stubby's will still draw them in. I have fished sitting next to others who were using a different bait while I was using Stubby's. I out-catch them 3 & 4 fish to 1. I usually just tight line a baited hole [range cubes] with Stubby's, but I have caught fish from the bank under a float without cubes. I am not knocking the other baits. They work and are made by good people. I have just found that Stubby's out fishes them all, all the time [and it is not as messy]. So I encourage you to most definitely order more Stubby's!! Don't worry about finding a retailer, just order it direct from Stubby and it will be sitting at your front door within a day or two. You are also correct that Stubby [and Little Wheel] are both good men and good anglers, but we all know that the main gear in the operation is Mrs. Stubby!!!

That's a hell of a testimonial, and true for me too. No doubt the straw that stirs the drink is Sandy, Stubby's better half.

I am no catfish expert, but I think it is a little early for the peak " catfish on the rocks " time. We have used soured grain ( wheat or milo ) in the
past with better success than range cubes.

congrats on a successful outing.

good luck in the future
