Blue or Channel?

I was fishing for bass and had this guy hit (and bend up) my spinner bait. My buddy swears it is a channel but I thought they had spots so I said blue. Do they all have GIANT tails like this one? It seems too big for his body.

Anyway, he stretched my line real nice. I am no species snob and could get used to catching these guys.

We didn’t get the picture, but the way to tell the difference is to count the anal fin rays. A blue catfish has 30 to 35, while the channel cat has 24 to 29 anal rays.

Both are good predators and will actively chase a lure.
