Lewisville 8-15

Lewisville 8-15 - 08/17/20 02:09 PM

Got out and drifted for a few hours with my 4 yr old fishing partner. I had planned to scan for some bigger fish but reality quickly set in and we shifted our game plan to just trying to locate a fishable group. We struggled to locate fish the first hour. We scanned 4 different areas before we finally found a pile of fish on a long point in 30 ft. Once we located em we started catching em 2-3 at a time. This time of year you never know what your gonna catch when you drag through those big groups. We ended up with 11 channels, 9 blues, 1 gar, 1 hybrid and 1 magnum crappie all caught on cut gizzard Shad. We kept the crappie and most of the channels for lunch and released everything else. Got off the water at 10 am when the jet skis started circling. texas

My Zakk planer boards came in the mail last weekend. I can't wait to play with them this coming weekend on the Tn River. I've got some underwater canyons and ledges I'm going to use them on.

Your gonna love em Nut! They work great for ledges and points. I like to line my boat up on a ledge and use my I-pilot to pull me along the contour. The boards allow you to plane some baits on top of ledge, on the ledge, as well as on the bottom of ledge all at the same time. Thatā€™s exactly how I used em at deadmanā€™s point Saturday morning. Using planer boards will add a few fish to your stringer but mastering them is a game changer and will forever change the way you fish. texas [Linked Image]

I'm after the big ones. My boat partner brings a grand kid (currently 4 in rotation!) every trip. Our goal is to put them on one 25 lbs or greater. Neither one of us can throw a cast net so I ordered a 10 pack of sabiki rigs for catching skipjack. Previously we have been using cut bluegill which the GK's have enjoyed catching as well. The last time we went out, another boat drifted by and hooked a 28 lb blue. Now the GK's know what monsters lurk in the Tn River. Up until then their biggest was 8 lb.

Your map brings up lots of fond memories when I was a catfish terrorist on Lewisville! cheers

Thanks Amigos! cheers Weā€™re after the big ones too Nut but we havenā€™t hung one over 20lbs in months. I never look for big fish too hard for very long this time of year or you burn up all the productive bite window in the morning. Weā€™re on our usual 10-20 dinks per trip this time of year. Some trips we donā€™t see a fish over 5 lbs. I been throwing a few big baits hoping to get lucky but only big fish Iā€™ve marked lately weā€™re up at Texoma. I need somebody to teach me how to catch something good on Lewisville. texas

Thanks amigos!šŸ‘

We usually make those tacos with bluecat Sam but since we donā€™t catch many channels I figured we would eat something different. This batch of fish I let soak in some Worcestershire and dusted them with Caribbean Jerk seasoning. Topped with spinach and mango and spread some pico on it. Squirt of lime and a bit of 1000 island and youā€™ll think your down in Belize drinkin Belikin beers amigo!

Getting to fish with my son so much this past year has been an incredible learning experience for both him and me Nick. Itā€™s not all Roses and Iā€™ve had to spank his butt more than a few times but we got most of those issues ironed out during the pandemic. Jax says he wants to go with Dad this winter to lake Wakoni which is funny cuz only time weā€™ve been skunked in the last 2 yrs was when I took him to Twok last February. I told him sometimes dad doesnā€™t catch a single fish when I go looking for monsters and he said he didnā€™t care as long as we got to build a fire, make sā€™mores and dad tell some scary fishing stories. texas

Great job Jax for putting your dad on some fish.

I have not had a chance to do much fishing lately. I am itching to go. My wife blew out her knew and has to have surgery on September 1. Thats a bad way to start dove season. Haha. I might get to go with my kid and give her some down time to relax after surgery.

Let me know when yall plan your trip to Twok and maybe we can get together and let the kids play, if that sounds fun to Jax. He might rather have some dad time.

Blown out knees are no fun. Hard to chase around a little wild guy with only 1 leg. Hopefully they get her patched back up good. Amazing stuff they can do these days. I will definitely let you know before we head to Twok. I usually go down there around the end of October or beginning of November. Jaxon doesnā€™t give a hoot about dad time, he would love it if you brought your son. He likes to play a lot more than he likes to fish.
