American Angler Pro VS Bubba Blade Electric

American Angler Pro VS Bubba Blade Electric - 05/07/20 09:42 AM

Which 110v filet knife do y’all prefer for cleaning catfish? My old mister twister crapped out on me and to be honest it never was that great anyways. It always hard a hard time getting through catfish ribs even on smaller fish. So now I’m in the market for a new electric filet knife and these two seem to beat the best two, which do y’all use or prefer?

I've used American Angler knives for the past 20+ years, many different ones and they have really improved over the past few years. I've not used the Bubba Blade so I can't give any kind of report on them. My current American Angler is two years old and has cleaned about 10-12,000 blue cat. Knives are not intended to cut bones and if you will cut up and over ribs the knives will last an amazing long time, not to mention the blades. This method also doesn't require going back and cutting the ribs out. At one time I kept up with how many blues a shark blade would clean and it was about 400 before going dull. I now use a Block sharpener and it easily triples the number of fish cleaned before needing to be replaced.

I have been happy with my American Angler electric. I have never burned one up. I do use a bubba blade orange handle knife to do fish and cut bait. The bubba blade is like any other fillet knife a n.v d is great when yuh o uh keep it sharp.

I’ve used both.

The AA pro knife is the better of the 2. The bubba blade electric has some good horsepower but it’s not ergonomic all the way it fits in your hand and really puts a lot of pressure on the trigger finger.

It’s hard to use for large quantities of fish.

Plus, it’s hard to beat the 2 year warranty on the AA knife.

As an alternative, go down to Walmart and get a black and decker electric knife for $13 dollars. I clean 100 pound sharks with them and they are great. I’ve cleaned hundreds of pounds of red snapper and redfish with them. The blade is great for cutting ribs, They clean catfish like butter. They will burn out after a few thousand pounds of fish, but for $13, I just carry an extra.

I've been using the Bubba Blade for a couple of months now. I'm generally not a fan of any of their products but needed a knife fast and it was on sale super cheap on the Zon. I use Mr. Twister blades with it, not a fan of the blades that came with it (or the case). It's held up well to cleaning a lot of fish and has good power but it's awkward to hold, not ergonomic at all. I'm going to switch back to AA and use the Bubba as a backup.

American Angler works good but like Jackie I bypass the ribs . 9 Times out of 10 I use my Dexter fillet knife manual power .

If I cleaned 100 fish a day as a guide, I might feel differently, but I’ve never seen much use for an electric. I’ve cleaned as many as 50 fish in a sitting on a few occasions, and never had any trouble with a quality, sharpened filet knife. But I’ve heard enough people mention the black and decker Walmart knife that I would probably go that route.
