Fork catfish today - 03/07/20 03:05 AM
I went out about three hours todsy and decided to catch fish corking. The fish decided I was not catching them on cork setup do I went to my 22 foot deep baited hole. I caught one channel that would weigh four pounds and got a few more bites. My partner of the day was Ill so I went in and took my boat out of the water. Now I got to tell you in my last three trips fishing at fork I am struggling to catch numbers of fish. Even pulled out old tricks. Yes I bought large blocks of cow feed and dropped one in several of my holes. The large blocks draw fish and they last longer. I buy them st Atwood’s in Greenville and they are marketed for game feed. The blocks weigh probably 25 pounds. Now I do have a black trash can full of soured millet that I use sometimes also. I am a big believer in chumming and probably cross over into the fish feeding category. So I am still catching fish on Stubbys. Any ideas on how to get my numbers up are appreciated? The key for me has been keeping my bait near the bottom. If I come up a full turn on my reel I ain’t catching them. I think the catfish may lay on the bottom in the cold water. Now in the summer i often catch fish 25-20 feet above the bottom. They still hang out where I chum when it is in 40 feet deep water.

I fished Thursday and Friday. Thursday with Stubby and Friday with a friend of ours. We were baiting out some holes so we can get back to guiding before long. We baited and fished anywhere from 16-27 feet. Fishing was slow the first day but improved the second day a little. They aren’t where they need to be. We haven’t baited holes and the water temp is still cold. Stubby will be back in a week and we will get them corralled back up and start catching numbers again.

Same here. I fished Williams Creek, Little Mustang, and No-Name with a cork in shallow and off the bottom in 20-30 foot deep yesterday afternoon. Didn't even get a bite, which is very unusual. Water is cold and stirred up from the rain. That's my only explanation.

Well I’m not feeling so bad. Been to Ray Roberts last few days and caught one from the bank with cut bait & Stubby’s.

well... I was feeling a little less confused, until littlewheel had to drop that 40 on us... fished CC yesterday afternoon for a few hours and it was very slow. Crappie not in shallow where I was looking yet, and my baited cat hole was empty too... Glad Arby's has fish sandwiches on sale!
water temp - moon - rain and muddy water - which direction you are sitting when you put your socks on ??? why its called fishing I guess.
good luck all

Do those blocks sink or need a weight?

40 in two days is slow for littlewheel. You guiding much this year? I know most guys prefer warmer weather for fishing but cabin fever is running around more than corona.
