Big Baits and Fat Cats - 11/24/19 01:57 PM
Fished in the rain with cousin Ben while the front was hitting Friday morning and again Saturday. I was nervous the 25 degree drop in temps would shut em down but we went anyhoot. Started out scanning in 45ft and moved up the channel looking for fish. Checked spots in 40, 35, 30 but didnāt see much until we got in 25ft. Gizzards were loaded around the channel in 25 ft so we scanned until we started seeing good fish and threw down on em. 22 ft was the ticket. Ben kicked off the day with his new PB of 54 lbs! Big fish were short striking like a son of a gun but they wouldnāt bite a smaller bait so we kept dropping big shad bombs on em. We hung another 52, 50 and a 20 and got em in the boat.
Next morning we went straight back to the same area and pulled boards along the channel again. Didnāt take 5 minutes and we hooked a 59. We spent the rest of the morning catching toads pretty much one right after the next. We ended up with a handful of 20s, some 30s, couple of 40s, and the 59! Never missed so many big fish due to short strikes it was crazy. We missed 2 big fish for every one we landed. All fish CPRd to fight another day!
