Catfish in the grass - 05/10/19 02:26 AM
The catfish are shallow in and around the grass. Probably any kind of bait will work now. I have been using chicken liver on a 2/0 crappie hook with a split shot above. An ultra-light spinning rod with 6 - 8 lb test line makes for a really good fight. I'm also throwing out some soured maize although I don't think it is really necessary. This pattern should hold for a while.
Regards,
Bart

On the Tennessee River, they are stacked around any flooded timber. February's historic floods downed a lot of trees. I just let my boat drift in the current and cast a nightcrawler to the edge and slowly work it back to the boat. Right now, I'm using a medium action rod with 10lb mono and having a blast catching 2-5 lber's. The bigger ones are starting to bite as well. The river is full of anchored boats with heavy action rods fishing for big blues and flatheads.
