Eagle Mountain past week.

I got out on the lake 4 times last week and here is what I can tell you. There is a shallow bite available and it is hit or miss. When it is on though it is outstanding with lots of fish between 5 and 10 pounds biting. I'm finding fish in 2-8ft of water, but the deeper water hasn't been that far off. It's all timing and seems random throughout the day. I will cruise by a spot and see nothing on the sonar, then check back later and see lots of fish have moved up, and when they move up they have been hungry. I get double after double for about 15 minutes while it is on and then the fish are gone and I get a bite every 15 min or so until it dies off completely.

I'm spending a lot more time finding fish on the sonar and a lot less time fishing blindly and hoping they move in. Find some birds, and some fish in shallow water near them and that has been an almost sure bet.

On Sunday I really struggled to get on them shallow so I went deep (40 FOW) and made a drift and stuck a 17 on a bluegill head in about 30 minutes (CPR'd it). Haven't seen any quite that big after Christmas in the shallow water. Heard a report of a 20+ and 40+ being caught on the weekend out of the deep water. Fish are so thick in some spots my hummingbird lit up red from the bottom up to 25 FOW and was reading 25ft until the fished thinned out. Some serious amounts of fish down there.

Seems like there are plenty biting no matter how you fish if you put the time in to find them with your electronics.

I need to put a longer rope on my cast net to catch bait during the day, but I am finding bait shallow at night around light.

Get em!
