Chase (Stumpy) and I are heading up there. Been a few years since I've been on Wheeler but she's been good to me. We already pre-registered and rented a house on the lake with private dock.

That would require me having a FB account, which I don't.

Mickey and I are coming up as well. I also know that Steve (BIGCAT) Nelson is coming we are all staying together and got a place rented for the week. As of yesterday there was 112 teams already entered so they should be pushing 150+ boats by the tournament.

Re: Winter Blues on Wheeler - 11/15/17 01:53 PM

Fished Wheeler yesterday from G dam to Ditto's Landing. The water being released from Lake Guntersville made it hard to stay in the zone. Plus the river was up over 10 feet. But it was a perfect fishing day. Using nightcrawlers only. Couldn't find any skipjack in all that current.

Re: Winter Blues on Wheeler - 11/15/17 08:30 PM

sounds like it wouldnt hurt to take a few Big gizzard shad packed in sonic ice and sealed with duct tape....then of course you will need alarms for the bait pirates slinger

Smoky take some with ya we always do.....they like big azz shad i have caught just as many on big shad as i have skips...My friend Chris has busted 2 over 100lbs there....If your not taking any from Texoma then head up elk river way up till it narrows and is deep .....scan those holes for wintering shad....we have never went down and not tracked down some bait.....unleash the peep bait-hounds

Is there any net size laws like in some states like here? Or can we throw just about any net we want?

I did not find a size restriction for cast nets.

Alabama Regulations

Re: Winter Blues on Wheeler - 11/20/17 02:29 PM

I went out last week. It looks like my boat needs some TLC, which I don't think I'll have done before the tournament. I'll probably drive over for the tournament. Think Stubbie will autograph one of my catfish containers?

Re: Winter Blues on Wheeler - 11/20/17 02:45 PM

there is no size restriction in alabama but you can only use it for shad and perch you cant use it for skipjack.

Re: Winter Blues on Wheeler - 01/08/18 09:39 PM

It was a cold week to say the least. My dad and I placed 17th out of 192 teams with 101lbs. First place was 164lbs and they had big fish as well at 78lbs.

There is a slot there so teams can only weigh in 2 fish over 34”. We caught lots of fish over that 34” mark on tournament day and it sucks letting 30lb fish go because of a slot. It was a good time will hopefully be back next year.

Re: Winter Blues on Wheeler - 01/09/18 02:22 PM

My partner and I didn't get to land a big one on tournament day. We found fish and biggest for the week was one just by few ounces being 50 just not on Saturday unfortunately. Congrats to Daniel, Mick, Steve and Larry for their placements! Nice to finally meet Daniel and Larry and I've known Mick and Steve for years. Had a great time hanging out with them in the evenings. Danielle says hello to you guys as well.
