Everyone must be fishing!

Everyone must be fishing! - 04/26/17 02:26 PM

The painters have been quiet for awhile. I've painted a few things lately, but I've not done much. I need to paint something new (which I guess is why I could never mass produce baits...I get bored way too easy). I haven't even been fishing. Anyway, I hope all are well.

Here's a natural bream pattern that was popular this spring.

Here's a holographic shad pattern that has produced good numbers of bass this year.

Like that Shad pattern, can always use another Shad Pattern. I too miss the Painters, fishing must be great. Ole

This one is a knockoff of an XPS pattern called Texas shad. The glitter doesn't show up well in the picture but, its there and it really finishes off a great looking pattern.

I call this shad pattern Sexy Splatter. Its done on a BassPro Shops XPS crank bait that I stripped clean and repainted.

Below are a few baits I paint. The top is a Jb Series 63t Wake bait in Green Gill. The swimbaits are my Jb Series ALive Glides in Hybrid Crappie, and the bottom picture is the Jb Series 72t Sub Surface Topwater in Emerald Shad.

Random stuff from BCCL:

A selection of baits in gizzard shad.

A closeup of a BCCL 2.5 squarebill in gizzard shad. Gizzard shad has been popular this year!

1/4 ounce rattlebait in black crappie.

This bait was supposed to be a ghost pattern. It was undercoated then wiped down with a moist cloth. The result was paint in the texture of the bait but not on the smooth surfaces. Pretty interesting look. Anyway, it has a semi transparent look with a reflective belly color much like the silver you see in minnows and a color shift from the sides to backbone that has that yellow greenish look that is common in many baitfish. There's a slight dust of color around the eyes and a darkened backbone with just a touch of bluish grey on the upper back. To make the silver/black eyes stand out the upper gill plate is dusted with a pearlish color seen in many species of fish. Overall its a pretty interesting look....hope it catches fish as well as it looks.

As promised....a swimbait (actually its a glide bait), in BCCL's black crappie pattern. The bait is painted so that the color shifts as the direction of the light changes...just like a live fish! The pictures don't do this pattern justice. You gotta see it for yourself!
