Benbrook area??

Benbrook area?? - 03/08/04 01:50 PM

Just wondering if anyone has had any luck in the Benbrook area lately, especially those of you fishing from the banks. My father-in-law and I went out Saturday morning to fish the banks of the Clear Fork (we parked at the bridge near Whiskey Flats). We caught six between the two of us, most of them before 9:00am. Fishing seemed to shut down after that. Everyone else around us seemed to be doing the same. Talked to a guy that said he was there on Wednesday before the rain came through and he said he and a friend caught 50 between the two of them. The water on Saturday was real muddy - so much so that you couldn't see your tackle until it was right in front of you. Just wondering if anyone else has any reports from this area (or Mustang or Bear Creek). If so, what are you using for tackle? We were using mostly white Road Runners and pink jigheads with white grubs.

We skipped TinTop and hit Benbrook Sat morning, but not a bite one. Trolled HellPet around the dam and NE corner, nothin. Fished the south end at the mouth of ClearFork, nothin. Water still looke dvery muddy, but I'm bettin this week is gonna kick it in gear.
The wife is off this week and she said she's going to hit Whiskey Flats area, we'll see.

Went Sunday morning to Rocky creek marina. There was over 30 people inside. A few were catching crappie, but not enough for me to stay long. Left there around 7:30 and checked campgrounds at Rocky Creek, Mustang Park Creek (Bear creek) and then finally made my way to Whiskey Flats around 9:00am. About 15 cars piled up with twice as many fisherpersons lining the bank. Got to a spot and started catching on chartruse bubble belly roadrunner. Caught a couple quickly, then the action slowed. The guy to the left of me had his limit and the guy to my right was a few short. Most people catching were using white grubs tossed across to the other bank and slow rolled on the bottom. Don't see how the fish were biting as muddy as it was. Finished at 11 with five, but think I just got there too late. I will start there next time the wind is blowing 25 MPH. I like fishing from the boat so much better, so the creeks are always a distant second when it comes to preference.

Johnnymo,
Your wife should do very well, they are starting to run!!

Hey Weekendwarrior, how far down river did you walk? We walked about 15 minutes from where we parked, but I noticed that there were quite a few people fishing near the 377 bridge.

Went out yesterday evening (Tuesday) to fish the banks of Clear Fork again. Fished the same hole I fished on Saturday for two hours and only caught two. Talked to some guys on my way back to the car. Seems that everyone I talked with did about the same. Water looks a little better, still pretty muddy. Anyone else having any luck at Clear Fork or in other areas around Benbrook? Looking for a good place to wet a line Saturday morning (assuming that it doesn't rain too much).
