raining fish on CC today

raining fish on CC today - 06/06/03 04:41 AM

Fished with first time client Eddie Raynor, found fish early schooling on a point, kept 23 there and released about as many, moved south and found some mmre, and had 18 from there, spent the last 2 hours in the drizzle and showing him how the hell/pet rig works, caught about 20 more, keeping a 50 fish limit and 1 nice Hybrid.
Wind from east about 10, saw one boat all morning.

Thanks for the report Billy. Glad to see you back after the move. I'll be out this weekend if I don't blow up my engine looking for the heat trouble.

Steve... I'm having a heat problem with my outboard, too. I wonder if it has to do with spiders clogging intakes. I am getting some water out of the tell-tail, but not a continuous stream. If you figure something out, let me know. My house is by Don's Port. Thanks. Jay

THIS IS TRICK FROM FISHING SANDY FLATS IN FLORIDA. GET SOME HEAVY MONO FILAMENT LINE AND SHOVE DOWN THE WATER DISCHARGE. SEE IF FLOW GETS BETTER, IF NOT TURN OFF ENGINE AND TRY FROM THE INTAKE SIDE.

I duck hunt out of my boat during the winter, so my intake stays clogged. I bought a couple of cans of compressed air @ Home Depot and a piece of clear plastic tub just big enough to fit over the nozzle on the air. I hold the other end of the tube on the discharge hole and blow out the water line when I have problems. Works well.

You might take the thermostat out and heat test it on the stove with a thermometer and hot water if you haven't already. Dirt dobbers and other critters do like to plug up the tell tale hole though. Just a thought.

JayH - Not a good stream from the tell-tale could indicate water pump/impellor trouble. When was the last time your's was changed? What type and hp engine is it? I did my pump last fall and I know it OK.

My heat problem is only one side.

ewilson- Good suggestion. I pulled both thermostats this morning and both port and starboard side are running almost the same temp now. I'm going to run without this weekend, and then put them back in next weekend. I think I had something restricting the starboard side water flow.

The whole story is under the Motor section of the forum. Mike at Southwest Marine in Grapevine is helping me trouble shoot.

Steve, I believe you're right about the impeller. This boat hasn't seen a shop in six years. The boat can idle at a decent temp but will skyrocket with throttle. My problem is my trailer has been borrowed by a buddy and has a bum boat on it. Life gets complicated. 200 merc. on a 20 ft. fish/ski. If you know a unused trailer in the CC area and a good mechanic that is cheap, fast ,honest, close, and can teach me to shoot docks like Ernest, please let me know. I don't ask much!..Thanks Jay
