coach I graduated from howard payne and fished brownwood quite a bit. The docks on either side of the island usually produce pretty good whites and hybrids. Enjoy your time football season will be here before we know it.

Night fishing around the lights is pretty good.

Thanks, This is the one week off during the summer. When you say the lights, do you mean the ones around the docks on the island? Where is the best place to find shad?

Thanks yall

We had good luck on Shad little fishies around lighted docks this past week.

Also heard the sandbass were running early in the morning near the Baptist Encampment.

I was at coleman this last weekend. The fish are stacked at the big island almost with the marker suspended over 30 to 40. Easy to find on the FF. Hard to catch if you do not have live and I mean only live bait. If you can find shad they hit it readily, if you troll or use slabs nada..... Lake needs to warm up just alittle bit more.

Pretty sure I will wait until at least Monday before I hit either lake. Not sure how Coleman gets on holiday weekends, but Brownwood rivals Belton. Way too many crazies for me.

Coleman is not really that bad. Depending on how big your boat is and which side you launch on. The side with the bait house is a much deeper launch.

We hit Coleman today and only caught 1 hybrid. hmmmmmmmm. Maybe brownwood will be better for me in the morning.

Had trouble finding them July 4th on Brownwood around McCartney island. Best numbers we had a few weeks ago was across from Flat rock ramp. Chrome Yellow magic early on top and chrome lil George's later or small silver blue back rat-l-trap if they were deep. Could see them real good on graph about 10-20 feet deep around midday. Seems like they were from flat rock to dam about 100yds off north bank all day.

I hit Bwd with my father in law last Friday, and the sandies were schooling from 0730 thru about 1030 straight north of the dam after getting into the main lake. There were lots of boats, but the schools were large. Sizes ranged from dinks to about 14", so not too shabby. We caught the nicer fish with kastmaster spoons and letting them drop through the top-biting schools while counting to 8 or 10 before beginning the retrieve. I have to admit that my f-i-l wore me out.... He's pretty much THE man on the sandies and crappie both. I need to be taking notes when I go with him. He spanked me on the crappie as well, but it was fun watching him doing his thing.

I've been skunked the last couple of trips to Lake Coleman, so I don't have any advice one way or another there.

Started across from Flat Rock where we launched them moved around to the flats by the State Park. they schooled from about 7ish and stayed pretty active until some guy came running up with the big motor, turned around in the middle of the school, and left. They were gone then. We tried a few other places, looking for the ever elusive Hybrid Highway.

Coach, My wife and I made a quick evening run out to Lake Coleman yesterday to try to snag a few crappie before dark, and did luck into a few... mostly close to the dam. We moved across the lake and tied off to some of the stumps on the creek channel towards the west end of the main lake (in about 35' of water) still looking for crappie. I was using a 9' ultralight crappie pole, and within seconds of getting my 1/32 oz. jig to 20' deep, my pole was snapped over, bent double, the line sang a high "E", and then snapped. I had a mild fit and re-tied another jig to the 9 footer. Same story, within a few seconds same thing happened again. My wife was using a light action spinning outfit rigged up with a crappie hook and small minnows. She hooked up, and after a 5 minute fight, I netted her 22" hybrid. I immediately dropped the 9 footer, re-rigged another spinning outfit and my wife's with heavier hooks, and then we commenced to wearing out hybrids from 19" to 23"... in the brush. Pretty interesting evening all the way around.
