Sand bass spawning run near Lake Fork - 12/12/07 04:30 PM
I am new to East Texas so I am looking for a place to fish next spring for spawning sandies in Wood County near Lake Fork (or near by).
Thanks

jd, I don't "think" that Fork has whites but I'm not sure. I'm sure there's other lakes around that do.

If you want the best run in east texas, go out to the Sabine River just above Toledo Bend. It's a bit of a haul out there, but the fishing is unmatched, compared to every run I've fished locally. Huge sandies, in unlimited quantities.
We put in, or stay at River Ridge. They have a website, google it, and it'll pop up. The first time down there, it took me about two hours to find a good spot, and about 1.5 hours to limit three people in the boat. Since then, it's never taken over 2 hours to limit, if we didn't want it too. Of course that's when they're running hard.
Jane owns the place, and runs a guide service too. She's already getting into the sandies pretty good. I'd be making my yearly reservations, but we've got a baby arriving in Feb, so I'll be limited to day trips this year.
