Texoma Sunday 3/19 my first SMB ever - 03/20/23 11:57 AM
Been a weekend part timer on Texoma for many years and finally got my first ever small mouth. Wooohoo! Another check off my bucket list. LOL
I took advantage of the cold snap and fished solo Sunday from 1 to 730pm. I started just outside of HP waiting on a soldier to show up but he texted an hr later saying he can't make it so I ran to my deeper DS spot. My expectation was not high because the water temp showed 55f. Thirty minutes into the drift, not much showing on the graph and this is looking familiar march madness slowness on my logs. Then BAM fish decided to group up under the boat, the mother load, but at every 15 mins wave-intervals. The first wave I caught 4 overs real quick... Then they stop biting even with the heavy loaded graph. Doh!
I decided to continue drifting and still seeing good graph every 15 minutes and caught 11 on the drift, with 4 good boxes the rest were overs up to 24". At 7pm the birds showed up in front of Blake Sheldon OK house and i landed another over and TWO SMB near the rocky shore. I heard SM fight "reel" good but i had two SM bit the ARig so they canceled each other out and not much of resistance haha! My first ever SMB, a 16" and a 12" and still growing for the next lucky angler.
I tried lime green fluke that Windbreaker gave me, tried pink, and white ice also and they all caught evenly. I did call a buddy over to drift closely along me, he had 5 anglers on his boat and they were using pink flukes and caught 15 to 20 good fish. He got the livescope and saw the crazy good amount of fish under us and but also saw also the March madness of fish not biting on his livescope as well haha!
Water temp Sunday was 55f, wind SE at 5 mph. Catching depth mostly 60ft with fish suspended up to 40ft. My ARig and solo fluke caught equal.
For the month on March. I did fished Saturday 3/11 with two buddies for three hours from 330 to 630pm and we only caught two 19 inchers and had a total of 4 bites. Did tried shallow but nada. That was a typical slow March day for me.
Good luck guys.
