Good day on Lewisville 5/22 - 05/24/22 03:26 AM

One of my good friends Gibby is moving to Iowa next week and I promised to take him white bass fishing before he moved. He had never fished out of a boat before and never caught a white bass. We were a little worried about the weather on Sunday, but headed out anyway. We got to Lake Lewisville around 4pm and fished until 7:30pm. It was windy and cool and there were no fish at the first few spots we looked. Finally we went to some humps in the middle of the lake and found fish on the bottom in about 25 FOW. We started catching fish right away and had several triple hookups over the next hour. We caught them on slabs, Mepps #4, and MAL letting them fall straight down and then cranking them up pretty fast about 5-6 cranks and then letting it drop again. Gibby picked up the Mepps technique pretty quick and was catching a lot of fish. Once we hit 100 on the clicker, it slowed down and we moved to another hump in that area and picked up a few more for a total of 131 white bass with a few small hybrids mixed in … all released for another day. We were fishing next to another boat that was only using a slab and not catching very many so we threw him a MAL spinner to try. He said his shoulder was sore from jerking the slab so much and I told him the only thing that will get sore with the MAL is his thumb from catching so many fish! laugh He laughed and then tied it on and started catching a bunch of fish. I'm glad we can get back to more white bass fishing now that the high school fishing season is over. We had a great time at the state tournament at Lake Belton, but I had to fish solo because Jake couldn't make it. I caught 11 fish but only 1 keeper. I'm looking forward to making another run at it next year.
