Rio Grande Valley whites?

Rio Grande Valley whites? - 12/05/21 11:41 PM

I’m preparing to retire and move down to the RGV, and make the Lower Laguna my home waters. I’m really looking forward to it. However, as addicted as I am to skinny salt water, I also enjoy a few trips with the half weight and the two weight during the white bass spawn. I’ve heard there are whites in the Rio Grande, but I don’t know how far down. So, my question is, does anyone know if there’s a viable white bass fishery within, say, an hour or an hour and a half of Harlingen?

Thanks for the response. Any idea if there is a population downstream of Falcon?

I think there are. I see netters below the dam once in awhile. Mostly spring now that I think of it.

Of course they keep everything they catch.

Okay, one of my fishing buddies from TPWD just got an email back frim one of their biologists down there. If anyone else is interested, he says there is a very small population of whites for a short distance below Falcon. Looks like I’ll have to get upstream of the lake to make it happen. Thanks again Tommar for your input.
