Cedar Creek Lake Reports for September 2021 - 09/03/21 01:35 AM
Friend Ed D. took me out on CC in his boat from 8 AM til noon today. We started at Saint Annes Point East and found them in 12 fow. Spent about 2 hours catching sandies on a #1 Mepps. I started with a number 1 because my #2 line was messed up, and I started catching them immediately. Ed started with a #4, then a #2, but wasn't doing that well. So, he switched to a #1 and started catching. About 10 AM we decided to go see if they were still at Key Ranch Drop-off. They were, and we caught the rest of our 108 fish there in 13 to 15 fow. I broke my rod holding up one of the heavy sandies while talking to Ed. So, the last 5 fish I caught were on a #2. We left still catching fish.
September is the hardest month for catching white bass here in Texas. Most of the fish are feeding on the newest hatch of shad. So you have to go to smaller baits. Yesterday cliffshot and I were out in separate boats, and we had a good-sized school of sandies down on the bottom between us. We were both casting #2 Mepps, and we would catch a fish every 5 to 7 casts. So, I switched to a #1 and started catching one about every other cast. Surprisingly, fishing a #1 is about like fishing a #2. Work it the same way as shown in my video. One tip: put a little more bend in the wire for a #1. That will help feel the drag of the spinner spinning and help the spinner start spinning. Here are pics from today:

Thanks Dennis. Seapro is right. You can always seem to figure them out.
I may try this morning by myself. I want to check out the rig I have set up using a crappie jig behind a bottom weight.
Thinking if I can drag this along the bottom they might just like it. Trying to substitute for a "hellpet trolling rig" but casting. I just can't do that trolling thing.
Thanks again for the excellent report.
God bless.

9/6/2021: Took nephew/stepson Adam out on Cedar Creek Lake today from 8:45 to 11:45 AM, and we had a good trip catching 75 fish:74 whites and a cat. We started at Saint Annes Point East. Fish were in 12 fow on top of the point. We set up to the side of the fish so we could know if they moved, and they did a couple of times requiring us to adjust our spot-lock position. We were casting #2 Mepps spinners with the plastic removed from the shank of the treble hook to make the lure look smaller. After a lure got hung on the bottom and we had to break it off, we decided to see if we could find fish at another spot. So, we headed east to Swing-set Hump but didn't see much there. Then we moved a little farther east to Flagpole Point and hit the mother load. We caught them there until Adam was ready to go in. We left with them still biting. Note the fish were NOT on the roadbed that goes through the point but were on the shallower part of the hump just 50 yards east of the road. We kept 44 fish to clean to eat for lunch and restock Adam's freezer. Here are some pics:

After company left, I went back out for a couple of hours and caught another 25 whites and a 20 inch hybrid. Here's a pic of the hybrid with the #2 Mepps that caught it. Note the bare treble hook and the bend in the wire.

9/15/2021: Friend Gordon went out with me, and he needed some fish for the freezer. We caught fish at Saint Annes Point East, 60 Acre Hump, Pole Dance Point, and Carolyn Estates Point. I think he kept 46 whites and a hybrid to clean, and we caught a total of about 75 fish. We are still catching them on a #2 Mepps and a #2 Mepps with the plastic removed from the hook shank. Removing the plastic reduces the profile slightly, which helps with the small shad still what they are feeding on. Fish we caught were in 12 to 18 fow.

9/18/2021 Checked one spot - Flagpole Point and it was covered with fish. I caught 25 whites and the catfish below in 12 to 16 fow. It was 30 inches long, and I caught it on a 1/3 oz nickel Little Cleo shown with the fish.
9/20/2021: Checked 6 spots this afternoon from 4 to 6 PM. Nothing at A-Frame, Sam's Hump. and Long Ridge West. Found a huge bunch at Key Ranch Drop-off. Caught 9 in 10 casts with a nickel-colored 1/3 oz Little Cleo, then 9 in 10 casts with a #2 Solver Mepps, and then I tried a #4 silver Mepps and caught 5 in 10 casts. On the cast I missed on both the Little Cleo and #2 Mepps, I got two strikes. Fish were in 12 to 16 fow. Also, found fish on the underwater point just north of Key Ranch North. Caught 11 there in 14 to 16 fow. This is the second time recently I've found fish there. Think I'll add this to my map as Key Ranch 23.

Re: Cedar Creek Lake Reports for September 2021 - 09/26/21 04:19 AM
9/25/2021: Put boat back in Cedar Creek Lake this morning and fished from about 9 AM to 1:30 PM. In the morning the fish were really weird. I found huge schools at Key Ranch Drop-off, Merimac Point, Spillway Hump, and the Rock Pile, but they refused the usual presentations of pointing the rod at the line for the #4 Mepps and for jerk starting the #2 Mepps to the side. I finally got them to bite by starting a #2 Mepps up very slowly and smoothly. The whites would nibble on it ever so lightly - like a very light perch nibble. When I felt this, I set the hook. Even then, I might get bit one in 4 casts. Also, I couldn't get a bite with the sun at my back. I got more bites fishing this way at the Rock Pile, which was about 12:15 to 12:45. So, I'm thinking maybe the fish are getting hungrier. I don't recall ever having to use the combination of slowing down this much while, starting smoothly, and cranking the Mepps upward instead of sideways.
My last stop was Enchanted Isle Ridge, where I fished from 12:45 to about 1:30. . It also was loaded with fish, but in slightly deeper water - in 18 to 21 fow. The previous spots were in shallow water - 12 to 17 fow. I tried the #4 usual technique 1st and it worked - catching a fish on almost every cast. Then I tried the #2 jerk start technique and it also worked. So, I'm left wondering what the explanation is for the difference between Enchanted Isle fish and the other spots. This is what I THINK it is: at the other spots it was a combination of fish being in shallower water and still digesting the food they ate during the partial full moon - they were not going to work for another bite of shad. To say it another way, the Enchanted Isle fish were deeper and time had made them hungrier. Hope this is helpful. Oh, I caught 50 whites, 2 hybrids and a cat.
I went back out from 5 to 7 PM and caught fish at Drew's Humps, Dam Drop-off, and Campbell's Hump all using the #4 Mepps technique. These are all shallow humps - 12 to 16 fow. I caught 25 whites and a cat.

9/27/2021: Fished from about noon to about 5 PM and friend Paul joined me about 1:30 PM. Places we caught fish included Campbell's Hump, Dam Drop-off, the A-Frame, Key Ranch Drop-off, and Old Pond Dam. We caught a few on #4 Mepps but most were caught on a #2 alternating a slow retrieve upward with a jerk-start retrieve. We ended up with 75 white bass, a hybrid, a few cats, and a yellow bass. Fish were in 12 to 18 fow.
9/28/2021: Friend Cliff took me fishing from 9 AM until 3:30 PM. We caught fish at Carolyn Estates Point, Kevin's Point, Spillway Hump, the Rock Pile, Enchanted Isle Ridge, and Game Warden Hump. At the last two spots, we caught most of our fish on a #4 Mepps. At the other spots, we caught most on #2 Mepps, working it like the day before - alternating smooth, slow retrieve upward and jerk starts. We ended up with 105 whites, a hybrid, a yellow bass, and 3 cats

I always look forward to your post. I have a lake question for you. I fish Cedar Creek for the crappie, and white bass, but stay away when the wake boats are active. Has the lake calmed any as we go into the fall?

Yes, it is much reduced - almost non-existent during the week, but still a few scattered on weekends. Dennis
