Ray Hubbard was good on 8/15

Ray Hubbard was good on 8/15 - 08/16/21 07:51 PM

Me and my dad went to one of our favorite lakes yesterday to try to find some Hybrids. It was hot and slick until about 6pm and then the wind picked up and so did the fishing. The first spot we found them was a hump in 15 FOW and we caught about 100 small white bass. Then we moved to a deeper hump in 25 FOW and caught some bigger white bass up to 14 inches and 4 keeper Hybrids. My dad caught most of his on Mepps #2 and some on the new Mepps MAL Heavy with the white blade. I caught all of mine (including the 4 Hybrids) on the new Mepps MAL Heavy with the yellow blade. We used the DC method of working the Mepps by casting them out letting them fall to the bottom, reeling them about 5-8 times and letting them fall again. We ended the day with an awesome sunset, 156 fish on the clicker, and a sore thumb!

Lincoln, great writeup and great results. Even greater that you're doing all this with your dad.

I'm glad to hear about your success with the MAL with colored blades. One of the main reasons I offered that chartreuse bladed version you were using was due to requests from fellows fishing Lake Tawakoni. How do you think the color of the water at Ray Hubbard and Tawakoni compare?

Here in Central Texas where I am (on Lake Belton & Stillhouse Hollow Reservoir) I don't use chartreuse much unless we get flooding and the water gets stained. We have gin-clear water on Stillhouse right now and Belton is tinted olive green, but still clear.

What I have found is that the white blade has very quickly become my go-to for cloudy days when we don't have direct sun penetrating the water to reflect off of the silver bladed versions.

I look forward to hearing more about your adventures and observation.

I wish I would have been there to potlick off ya!
Everyone get your fishing in now. I will be off the lake for a month or so.
After that, anyone I see catching a fish, I'm coming right up next to you!
