Striper Noob

Striper Noob - 07/19/21 09:46 AM

I have always fished for bass but I am wanting to branch out and fish for other species. Striper is one of the species I am wanting to catch. I will be fishing from my kayak and on occasion from the bank. What are the rigs I should try, Baits/Lures any help is appreciated. I’m in Saginaw, what lakes in the area have striper? What are things you would tell yourself if you could go back at tell yourself at the begging of striper fishing? Thanks

Extremely unlikely you will have any luck with stripers from bank or kayak.

A lot of people like throwing A rigs, War eagle spoons, and sassy shad swim baits. Live shad is the best bait but tougher to do in a Kayak. Fish are in less than 25' right now on most lakes because of the thermocline. Look for humps, points, and drop offs. Pretty much the same places you look for white bass. Whitney, Tawakoni, PK, and Texoma are all good lakes for striper.
