100+ white bass on Hubbard Creek. - 03/22/21 12:01 AM

Had an excellent scouting trip at Hubbard Creek. Over 100 + fish. Both prespawn and post spawn fish caught. Water temp 54-56 degrees. Best success with roadrunner jigs worked slowly in 25-35 fow. Going again next weekend if winds are not crazy! Give me a call or text if interested in a guided trip! Next Saturday or Sunday!

$375, 4+ hour, 1-3 anglers.

That's a load of fish! Did you use the thumper? How did the fish respond to it?

I haven't been fishing Fort Phantom much since last Fall. I just went on it for a few hours yesterday to scout and found the hybrids right at the end of my 2 hour short trip in 15-25 fow. Hybrids were extremely finicky despite having hundreds of them on the graph. They have been strange for me the past year. Their pattern has been a little different than before and I just honestly haven't cared to mess with them much. I'd rather go to Hubbard Creek and catch a ton of white bass in 2-3 hours on Hubbard than go catch hybrids. I know that may seem crazy to others but 200 plus smaller fish is way more fun to me than few big fish.

The thumper seems useless on Hubbard Creek for some reason. It seems on some lakes it works really well and other lakes like Hubbard Creek it is almost useless for some reason.

Do you just guide on weekends?

Yes only on weekends and occasionally Mondays. I own and operate a medical business (Abilene Mobile Med) so busy with that and family during the week.

I concur , have at last convinced other anglers the same. A lot more fish in the 1 to 2 lb size , require less scouting, are more reliable to find via way points and taste great if prepped and cooked properly !

I agree. Way less work to find white bass then hybrids year round, other than the next few months hybrids are easy to catch and predictable but the trade off is they seem to heavily prefer live Shad over artificial baits during this peak time causing a lot more time and effort to get the most out of your trip in may and June.

What graph is that? I don’t get images like that. I’m looking to upgrade is that. Garmin or Humminbird?

Good to hear about your white bass catching on that lake, I wonder about it all the time crossing the bridge headed between Denton and Albany, where my family hunting land is. I fished a little for whites years ago, would find them schooling around one of the islands. I might have to try out the lake more sometime. Thanks for posting!

It is a Humminbird (the only true fish finder). haha Just kidding. All fish finders these days are top notch with their little advantages and set backs. The helix certainly has some flaws that would be so easy for them to fix. I use a Gen 1 Humminbird Helix 12 inch with all the bells and whistles for that Gen 1 model....chirp 2D sonar etc. I considered upgrading to one of the newer models but if it ain't broke don't fix it right?
