Are there still any there? Have been a lurker for a while and would like to go troll for some this weekend. Any tips/pointers would be appreciated.

Good tutorial on hybrid fishing LC on Youtube. Search "Lake Conroe Hybrid Fishing" and watch Barry Stokes fish with a local guide in 2019.

I hosted that show with Barry Stokes. It was a great time and we smashed the hybrids!

Yes there are still good numbers of hybrids in Lake Conroe and May is a great month to catch them. I do expect a steep decline in big fish numbers 2021 and 2022 due to two years of missed stockings. They were stocked last year and apparently this year as well, so that's good news.

Lake Livingston is our primary lake, but we fish Conroe a lot in the winter and early spring when Livingston gets muddy. Lake Conroe gets extremely crowded with pleasure boaters once the weather gets nice.

We don't troll but it can be very effective. If that's how you wish to fish I'd recommend a deep diving 6XD crankbait for 20' or less and some sort of diver for any water deeper than that. There is a nice structure called the dump on the south end of the lake and a nice ridge line just south of the bridge mid lake that hold hybrids this time of year. I'd recommend trolling those edges.

There is a nice class of 22" hybrids in the lake right now.

Thanks Chris for the tips. Yes Conroe can get crazy rough with all the boaters. We have had a house up there for 15 or so years and tend to get off the water on major holiday weekends by 10 AM. Just too many boaters that don't have a clue what they are doing.

Caught many good conroe football hibbies at the Dump structure, one time with guide Michael Richardson, and once on my buddy's pleasure boat with zero graph or TM. This time of year. You can scan that structure to spotlock or on windy days, drift thru it bouncing big slabs. Those fish can PULL! Had good luck at windy points as well.

It's been 5 years but I had good luck during the heat of the summer by getting up pretty early and fishing just slightly south of the 1097 bridge closer to the east bank(I'm assuming the main body of the lake runs north and south).

By getting up early I pretty much had the lake to myself. I used a splasher and rsr slabs chartruese with foil flash. I can't remember specific depth but it was in the main body so it had to be around 25-30 ft. I was actually surprised how well I did but I did it 4 out of the 5 days we were there.

Good Luck.
