Stripers at whitney

Stripers at whitney - 03/28/20 12:52 AM

Striper fish good at whitney. MCCOWN ramp is open, lake level dropping slowly. Brother fished wednesday morning caught 14, only 4 keepers. Thursday my son and I caught 10, our limit, 20-24". No small fish. Lost 3 due to bad swivels. We fished 7am to 10. Trolling with umbrella rigs. Best luck on no 6 chartreuse swim baits. 1 oz jig head and silver 6" flutes also worked well. My brother and his son also there in his boat , they only caught 8, 4 keepers but up to 27" fish. No large schools of fish, but plentiful. Probably could read stick them. Saw several guides looking for fish but never saw them stay in one place.

Yes sir they are good. I slice the red meat off then soak the fillets in a bowl of tap water in the frig overnight. Drain and grill them or freeze for later.

Remove red meat, soak in sea salt with water in frig. About tablespoon of sea salt for every two filets. The sea salt will remove most if not all of the fish oils from the fish. Meat will be as close to white as possible. The more you drain water and repeat, the more of the oils removed.

How about the Walling Bend ramps? Are they open? Any idea if there’s a website to look at for ramps open or closed?

So, does anyone actually know if the Walling Bend boat ramp is closed? The link only confirms 2 ramps are open, McCowen and Lofers, and all the others says they are “partial closed” implying just the camp grounds. That doesn’t mean the boat ramp is necessarily closed, right?

I was at McCown on Friday and Sunday this weekend. Very busy both days and the ramp is in excellent condition. Park half was close, but ramp was open.
