Fork yellow?

Fork yellow? - 02/10/20 11:37 PM

Deadsticked fork for an hour, before the rain hit this afternoon. 5 bites 3 landed the crappie hit a 4” fluke and the yellow hit the jig. Wasn’t sure if it was a yellow or yellow/hybrid since I have never seen a yellow that size?

I agree with Todd. I caught a 17 inch yellow at Cedar Creek and submitted it for a lake record. They had a DNA analysis done and it turned out to be a cross between a yellow bass and a hybrid. I take their word for it although does it make sense for a hybrid to cross with anything since they can't even reproduce with their own species?

While it is rare for hybrids to reproduce in most Texas lakes, they are actually not infertile. Check this article out.

Throw striper into the mix and it won't be long before we will not be able to determine what specie it is.

A yellow bass hybrid is a cross between a yellow bass and a white bass...

My understanding of the science behind it is that the true bass are all close enough genetically that hybridization does not interfere with their ability to reproduce. There are also occasional paradise bass (yellow x striped) caught on lakes with yellow bass and striper present

Thanks for the article,Krappie-King. I had always heard they were infertile.
