Lewisville / Ray Roberts Guide Report 12-9 - 02/09/20 04:51 PM

I think reports should actually contain useful information to help us all become better fishermen, not just an opportunity to brag... Feel free to reach out if you need help on my home lakes. Also, If you are looking for a guide please keep me in mind.

Ray Roberts: White bass have continued to be outstanding. It's rare for us not to limit out. I haven't changed much from my last report with regard to the pattern. You can find fish on deep points and structure. They are all over the lake and feeding well considering the amount of water being released. If you need a starting point try the entrance of Johnson's Branch where the points meet the main lake in 45-50ish FOW. The fish will likely be suspended so use your electronics to tell you where to put your baits. If you don't have a thumper go get one.. There are two reputable manufacturers here on the form who sell them. Once you get a pattern going just look for similar structure around the lake. Fish super slow and barely twitch your baits (flukes and slabs). I've found that the most active fish are at the top of the column of fish. So if you have fish at 35-45 foot suspended in deeper water, sit your baits at 35 where the most active fish are. The crappie are not on the brush piles. I looked hard yesterday. The only way I can catch them at the moment is deep and mixed in with white bass.

Lewisville: Slow and aggravating. I know where the white bass are in droves but I cannot get them to bite well enough to take customers out for them. Im using the same baits and techniques as I am on Ray Roberts. I keep telling myself that the fishing will get better once they stop releasing water. We are only about an inch high so it should be any day now pending we don't get dumped on hard this week. I have been scouting a few of the creeks and have found some (not many) early spawners... I can't wait for that to bust loose.. Crappie: man if i had some dynamite I might be able to catch one... they have lock jaw hard.. Hybrids: April-June should be hammer time like usual. They are hiding at the moment.

Here are a couple recent hero pics.

I appreciate your deliberate approach toward intel presentation . Tiz a weird year for fishing past patterns. Always enjoy your threads. I too fish year round as winter is by far my favorite.

Great info and post. One question, on RR when marking water at 20' or less there appears to be no fish. Once the water starts to get deeper you see fish everywhere. It almost seems impossible for there to be that many fish and not catch something every drop. Are you seeing the same thing?

Gborg: Gracias. I appreciate that.. fellow Weatherford kangaroo here!

BCBassCat: The reason you are not seeing fish in shallow water is because of the water temps. It's colder and the fish want to be in deeper water that is actually warmer. The fish are really keying in on the 30-45 foot range at the moment. It's basically the same pattern every Winter on these two lakes. The key to breaking down lake, regardless of season is to understand how fish react to oxygen levels, temp, structure, and bait. Any time you can get at least two of those factors dialed in you are usually going to be getting bit. At the moment I'm not even looking in anything less than 35'. I want to find them in the 35-60 range and look for concentrations suspended at 30-45 ish. The depths may change week by week but that's a general idea of where to look. Use small slabs or flukes on 1/4oz jig heads and literally barely twitch them like your crappie fishing.

Solid of you to give such a detailed report and go as far as giving an exact location to start. If that doesn’t make people recommend or use you as their guide nothing will.

Ray Roberts is still producing. Anyone use the info I posted above or in my last post and have any success?

Eventually Lewisville will be at normal pool and I'll start fishing there more regularly. Until then Ray Roberts should continue to give up the white bass.

Here is a photo from yesterday. Tight lines everyone..

Thanks, Phil! That was a very helpful post. Some of the other guides will not share patterns or the baits they use like you have.

Viva!!

Thanks Dennis. Are any of you guys using the double eyed jig heads from RSR? Using them is great because you don’t have to tie a stopper loop. They literally pay for themselves after a while because you don’t break off and lose jigs often. Basically there is no weak point created with a traditional dropper loop. The action may not be the same but it still produces well. I like the 1/4 oz with no paint. It saves me $ going without paint. I imagine if I asked for painted ones I’d get pink and chartreuse. I tie a second 1/4 oz jig head about 18-22” below the top double eye jig head. Above everything I use a swivel. That keep
Line twist to a manageable level.

Been using dropped eyelet from RSR or Mpty pockets for at least 8 years. We have found that putting heavier jig on first ,one ounce then a three foot tag line allows the bottom or lighter jig, half ounce or 3/8 ounce, to pendulum creating a slow moving action that fish will attack more so than holding still.
