Absolutely. Get them on jigs/slabs until about 8:00-8:30 then it's trolling time on the lakes I fish.

I have never tried this. What do you guys run behind the Hellbender?

Pet spoons or 2” flutter spoons works behind hellbender or deep diving crankbaits.

The smallest pet spoon I can find about 18" behind the hellbender

This is the correct one, Tony Accetta Pet Spoon Chrome/White Feather, Academy sells them. Ernest Paty taught me this technique in 2004.

Thanks for the info. About how deep does the hellbender troll. I'm thinking about dragging one around the old 155 bridge on Palestine with my kiddos.

Folley spoons are the same thing for a lot cheaper. I put a 3/8 oz weight in the fron eyelet of the Hellbender. Makes is swim a little deeper and straighter.

8-10 feet usually. Adding a weight to the front will drop it another foot or two.

Remove the hooks add 3/4oz. bank sinker to front eyelet tie 18in. of line to rear eyelet add pet spoon and done. Hellpet with 3/4 oz. weight will troll 1ft. for every 2ft of line let out IE need to troll 25ft deep let out 50 ft of line and so on. Also troll at about 2-2 1/2 miles per hour.
