PK General Advice - 07/20/18 03:41 AM

I am completely ready to be shown the door by the veterans but am willing to at least ask for a bit of guidance. I am visiting PK for a few days. I got here this evening and am celebrating the heat. Any generalized advice on what general part of the lake to look over. There seems to be some promising features on the lower end of the lake(damn end) as well as the upper end. Is a person better served fishing one or the other? Given that I gather bait in the morning fairly easily, I’m going to run the water looking for Fish on sonar. Hoping to get lucky and stumble across a few.

Regardless, the lake is beautiful and I bet it gets busy on the weekends with people that aren’t fishing.

Here’s my 2 cents worth. On some days it’s less than that. roflmao
With the high water temps, bait bite has been back and forth. I would consentrate the south end (dam area) early. There has been some surface action there in the mornings. From day break and a little earlier. I would be sitting there around 5am. When that dies down, run into Neelys slue and drop your baits, along the tree lines. And maybe work your way north up around scenic point and the camp area. Some are having success slow trolling a rigs above the tree lines next to the channel. Big flutter spoons have also been producing some nice fish. 8” flutter spoons.
Good luck and stay hydrated. Gonna get hot quickly.

If you can catch bait you can catch fish. Fish the dam end.
Look for an island blue cc with a white t top. You should be perty
Close to the fish then.
Good luck and don’t be afraid to fish over trees

I really appreciate the input guys. I was on the water early. 4:00. Gathering bait won out on me. Headed towards the south end. I fee Fish were surfacing and picked up a couple smaller fish. Moved back up lake a bit fishing how I’ve fished them in other lakes. Points and sharp drops. Running soft plastic straight down and jigging a bit. I picked up a few more fish around Gaines bend. Marked a good number in that area but just couldn’t pick up a bite on the lures I was dropping down. I’ll be back at it the next few days. Several trollers down around the damn. I pulled out of there fairly early just to avoid being I. The line of a troller.

Hot is an understatement. I’ll be back at it this evening. Back to family and hiding in the shade for now. Hoping bait is easier to come by in the morning.

You should give night fishing a try. Look for docks that have big lights close to the surface. Gas docks are good. It's cooler at night and these areas with lights will concentrate the fish. Catch a couple dozen perch and fish them down with the deepest fish you see on the fish finder. Try to stay out of the cables.

As for the heat, I don't think much will fix it this week. I'm going to the white river in NW Arkansas. That's my answer to 109 F in the shade...

Right now, I'm hammerin' em from the dam to Gaines. I'm off the water by 8:30 most days. Had 3 limits by 8am Wednesday, finishing up at Gaines Bend. 2 fish over 11. All on artificials. They want it moving.

We are staying at a place with a light on the dock. Shallow water though. I’m planning to catch some perch this evening. When the light kicks on. Then use them a bit tomorrow as well. I don’t have a downrigger unfortunately, so running bait fast and deep is fairly limited for me to diving baits. I’m here until Sunday. I’ll give them heck. Probably spend time around Gaines

Oh I'm not trolling. I'm throwing 5-6" swim baits and top waters early, and slabbing style baits.

I am guessing the evenings are pretty low key with the heat. I’m going to give it a short run this evening.

I’ll try not to look too run of the mill touristy.

Evenings have been decent from what I hear, I do not run in the evenings this time of the year. To fat and old for that heat anymore. I sent you a private message. You can read it by tapping on the envelope flashing next to the spot that says “my stuff” at the top of the page.

Yeah. I’d have never seen that. Thank you sir.
