Adding light to boat to night fish

Plz pass on your intel with regard to the above reference topic. I have night fished as of late, can't see well in daylight, night creates some definite challanges.

Do NOT buy the cheap led rope lights off amazon! They suck. Go to Academy and they sell LED lights that are about 2.5 feet long in blue green and white. I have had zero issues with them and been using them on my boat for a few years now. Secure with double sided automotive tape. Consider mounting some 8 inch white led lights on boat with toggle switches for easy access and to light up work spaces on your boat when neede such as in front of center console.

Just get a head lamp. If you want to see to tie a knot in the dark or unhook a fish a headlamp is the way to go. You can turn it off after and the bugs will go away.

I use some cheap headlights from Walmart for like $10 each and they are simple one button function of high beam, low beam, off. That’s all you need but if you get into it enough some blue lights hidden throughout your boat is a cheap and fun upgrade that not only creates a fun atmosphere but provides quality light for working and walking around.

I have led’s mounted in my boat for courtesy lighting, but when I set up to fish I have an 8’ closet dowel I rigged up with about 4’ of an led strip wrapped around the top, wire coming down with a cigg light plug on it. I stand it up in the rod holder on the side of my cc and it lights up my entire boat like a lantern. The only thing I wished I’d done differently, was to make it 10’ instead of 8’. It does draw the bugs overhead, just need them a couple more feet overhead.

Im still a fan of the submersible sealed beam lights you can hook up to 12v and drop over the side to depth. Not having lights on the boat (until needed) really keeps the bugs at bay. I have caught literally hundreds, if not thousands of fish at night and these lights have worked flawlessly. They are available now in LED so the amp pull is much less. I still use halogens from the late 90s early 2000s. Two have the cigarette lighter plugs and one has alligator clips. Very easy to install the female lighter receptacle into convenient places on the hull. I have one forward, one aft and one on the console. We can fish easily for 6-7hrs on one battery (which is a very long night). I have several LED clip lights for my guest's caps or headlamps if they want to wear them. Easy on and off versions so we minimize topside light and no one has to fumble around to make them work. I have LED strip lights inside the hull for moving around but once we get fishing, they go off. I have LEDs inside the bait well that come on when the lid is raised. There is nothing like putting the lights out and attracting the bait. If you are in the right spot, the smaller fish, then the bigger fish will soon follow. After several hours on the water, it is common to have all the fish moving in a big circle around the lights. Bigger fish will dart in the smack the bait right at your lights. Its great fun. I have a 3.25lb crappie on the wall from Ray Roberts I caught at night in May '91. Lots of fun things can happen at night and the stories would fill a few volumes. Hope some of this helps.
