I caught seven of these between 5 and 7 lbs during 30 minutes of fast action under the birds. How do I try to catch these when they are not on top and schooling?
That makes sense because I did cruise around after the action and saw a hump in 30 fow that was covered in shad, but I did not scan any larger fish nearby at the time.

That`s where the fishing part comes into play. They can`t be on all the humps but sooner or later they will be on the shad.Usually they will have sandbass mixed in with em did you catch any Sandies?
Right now most folks are deadsticking jig/swimbaits or using slabs while thumping. Find the bait close to humps and start thumping. Watch your sonar. When you see how deep the bait is drop your bait above, in, or below the bait.
