Sand Bass fishing on Eagle Mountain

Sand Bass fishing on Eagle Mountain - 02/08/18 03:11 PM

Thought I would catch everybody up on what is going on at Eagle Mountain as far as sand Bass fishing.
I have been getting a few calls wanting to know when the sand bass fishing is going to get good on Eagle Mountain. Well looks like it is going to be later this year due to colder water. Water never got below 50 last year. It is 44 to 46 now.
As my customers know I keep a list of people who want to be called when it gets good. Give me a call at 817-597-6598 if you would like to be
put on the list and I will give you a call when it gets good. This gives you first shot at the dates of your choice.
Look forward to hearing from my customers and new customers. Looks like it will be a great year but who knows what the spring weather will bring.
I am checking every few days on the fish so I will have a good handle on what the fish are doing and will know when they start our annual
spring time fun that we all love so much.
Give me a call at 817-597-6598.

Hello Johnny! I'm still hoping to come fish EM a few times this year. Love that lake. FYI, until someone posted on TFF in 2009 that they fished for whites all year round, I put up my rods and reels away after Thanksgiving until March - believing you couldn't catch whites in the lakes during the winter months. After reading that post I began fishing in Dec-Jan-Feb, and to my surprise I could catch whites on structure - as shallow as 12 to 15 fow in December then in deeper water (20 to 27 fow) in Jan-Feb. For example, look at my post for Re: Cedar Creek Lake Jan 2018 posted on Jan 23. Water temp was 46.2 degrees and I was able to find fish in 24-27 fow on humps and catch 51. So, if you haven't tried, you might want to go check your structures to see it they are holding fish. They are hugging the bottom looking like little bumps. This is definitely not dead-sticking, but structure fishing like you and I do, although thumping the boat does help. Just a thought for you to consider. Hope we can fish together again sometime.

Back years ago me and my buddies use to catch sandbass year around. The last 15 years nobody catches any in main lake. Catch them up creeks and staging up in mouth of creeks. had several guides including my self who don't beleive it and fished many many times and not one fish.
Two years ago I decided I was going to find them. I put thirty nine hours on my hour meter on my boat and not one sandbass did I catch.
When the water hits 55 they will be all over the structure. I can't explain it but I have logs from back in the 60's that we wore them out in the winter but not now. I can go to other lakes and catch them on structure. But not on EM. I can't answer it. Had several guides say I can catch them they come out we go nothing.

Do you see fish but can't catch them or do you just not find any fish on structures?

No fish on structures. I think they are hiding in river channel but we have not been able to find them.

Been getting a lot of calls about water temp.. It is running from the low 40's to the mid 40's depending on where you are
on the lake. Just need some warm weather. Won't be long.
