Are water temps causing a Shad Kill at PK?

Are water temps causing a Shad Kill at PK? - 01/17/18 04:56 PM

This has been a very cold winter so far. before this last cold snap, I got a report that water temps were around 40 at PK. With these days where the temp does not reach 30 I'm thinking surface temps are nearing threadfin kill range. Please post any new water temps if you have them.

45-47 last weekend. Fish were biting dead rubber shad on hooks.

Guess I heard wrong and that's good news. 45 is pretty cold but won't kill the threadfins.

If I do any fishing in the winter it will need to be "rubber shad" I usually get wet throwing the net and I bet that 45 deg water is unpleasant.

Good tip you gave me on those Wild eyes.

Shad made it thru the cold on the main lake at Texoma so PK should be OK.

Are y'all throwing Storm shads or another brand? Thanks!

We are low forties, Have seen a lot of small T-Fins floating. Pelicans and Cormorants are having a field day. It does not look as bad as the 2014 kill, that one had single digit temps three or four nights in a row. It felt like it took out at least 75% of the bait here.

Bport needed some of that bait thinned out anyways, that lake has crazy amounts of bait!

When I crossed Bridgeport yesterday at Runnaway bay the white caps were impressive. That lake is still very clear but going down fast. Some rain would be nice.

Headed to PK tonight. The low tonight is only 28. Shorts and flip flops are in order. It has been over a week since I have been but the shad were alive a plentiful then.

He will prolly wear socks with the flip flops. Haven't seen the Pelicans of late on PK, so the shad are still for the most part alive and swimming for their lives.

I wimped out. I have pictures posted on my trip from last night. According to the gauge in the truck last night it was 23 when we got off of the water.
