Epic Day on Big Tex 12/26 - 12/27/17 04:07 PM
On the water about 10am. Deadsticking all the way. Chartreuse head and fluke seemed to be their preference. Had to use a drift sock. Caught over 50 with lots of large fish. 15 or so of the 50 were 10+ pounds. Largest was 14lbs with several 12-13lbers. First big one we caught was 10lbs and it didn't break the top ten in the size rankings by the time we finished. Fish were really biting from 11-1. Then slowed down as the wind picked up from the north. The bigger fish were in the 25-30ft range. We had been looking deeper but birds drew us into the shallower water and it paid off. Off the water by 3pm.
It was misting and pretty cold when we caught our best fish. It's really amazing how the weather and striper bite are inversely related.
