Fort Boggy State Park - 10/21/17 07:43 PM
Fort Boggy State Park is similar to Buescher and Sam Houston State parks but the lake is even smaller. Sorry, I took a picture before dawn and it didn't come out. I love fishing these small lakes in my kayak so I decided to give it a try. I did some research on the lake but couldn't find anything about the fishing. The only report I had previously was it was shallow, clear and had small bass in it. I checked the TPWD stocking program and it has never been stocked with sunfish or bass.
I launched and started working the bank. To my pleasant surprise I caught a redbreast. I always catch them in creeks and rivers but don't catch them in lakes near me. I fished all the way around the lake with a top water Llano bug once. Then made a second trip around the lake with a crawfish briminator.
I ended up catching a warmouth, 2 redear, 17 bass (all under 12.5 inches), 10 to 15 bluegill and over 30 redbreast. None of the sunfish, save the redear were over 8.5 inches.
It was an enjoyable day of fishing and worth another try someday.
