My 225

My 225 - 10/05/17 09:33 PM

Hello friends. Below are pictures of my 225gl US Native aquarium. The 225 is my biggest tank and it keeps large adult fish. These are fish I caught. I'm happy with my current stock, it's a nice mix of fish, colors, and unique behaviors. The process of collecting is fascinating to me, catching a rare fish is just as much exciting as catching a trophy fish. I love fishing new systems and seeing different pigmentations. I'm always looking for a new adventure and hunting down those exceptional fish. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

This particular Rio was caught October 2015 at 1" with a dip net in the Colorado River by Austin Airport. Its about 6" 2 years later. It started in my 175 but got too big for his tankmates (Shiners, Log Perch, baby Sunfish, Stonerollers, Chubs, Killifish) and would eat them.

Re: My 225 - 03/23/18 12:10 AM

clap Nice. I had a 600 gallon tank in my house during the early 90s with bass and crappie. My wife and kids and I spent the Easter weekend at the lake and returned to the house with water coming out from the bottom of the bricks and running down the driveway. The 5/8'' thick glass cracked from one corner to the other and everything was dead. My wife said no more! Thanks for sharing.

Re: My 225 - 04/07/18 09:32 PM

For those of you that like to follow my aquarium posts, here are some new pictures from my 225. The fish are doing great, fat and happy. I'm fairly content with my stock and the first-rate collection of Sunnies. There are a few oddball fish out there that I would introduce but they seem to evade me. As always, Enjoy smile

Andrew

This has me intrigued. How much time investment would you say you
put into maintenance of your 255 with the school you have now ?
Over a monthly period.

thanks, Chris

Chris, I spend around 2-3hours/week servicing the aquarium.

Re: My 225 - 06/26/19 01:53 AM

Here are some new pictures and updates of my 225 Native aquarium. Tank and fish stock are doing well. I have all species (Green, Warmouth, Longear, Redbreast, Redear, Bluegill, Redear, Rio) of Texas Sunfish in there (except Orangespots because they would get eaten, I keep them in a smaller aquarium), plus a Green/BG and Longear/Redbreast (one of the cooler hybrids I have come across) a Florida Spotted Gar, Spotted Bass, and a Bronzer. Also, I have been growing out a Brown Bullhead from 2" to almost 7" and he join the community soon. Hope y'all enjoy the new pics.

Thanks everyone, Appreciate the replies and questions! I'll try to stay on top of this thread better with more updates.

Yesenia- Its not too bad. 1 or 2 water changes a week, takes a few hours. Keeping the glass clean takes some work. Algae wants to grow on the glass so I use a razor blade attached to a 2ft piece of pvc to clean/scrape. The glass has to be clean for pics otherwise my photos will turn out as garbage.
