Tying bluegill jigs.. ADVICE - 02/09/15 08:31 PM

Just ordered stuff to tie crappie jigs, and wanted to tie some for bluegill, is they key just down sizing everything? Would like to see some people examples of they have any of what a good bluegill jig looks like.

I would tie up no heavier than 1/32 with a number 6
but what you will slay them with will most likely be a 1/48 number 8
or a 1/64 number ten
earthworm colors work well for sure thumb

I agree. Tie a couple 1/32, but like Ketchn said, 1/48 and 1/64 jigs will get bit more consistently. The color depends on the ties. Browns and greens are fine for 1/32 jigs that will be fished on the bottom. I like whites, blues and purples for minnow type jigs with a bit longer tail. Whites and black hackles around the neck with somewhat sparse ties are great when you have hatches on the surface or evening surface action. Not to mention the different terrestrial patterns there are out there.

Purple is another good color, and solid black.
