Meal Worms

Does anyone have any decent success using them. I use them occasionally and have done so-so, but I'm nowhere close to an expert angler. The Mealies seem like a pretty good thing from a farming standpoint. It appears they are pretty easy to grow, so there's a constant source of panfish bait.

"Drrouter" is the worm expert here in the Bluegill section. There are also a few other anglers who raise various types of bait worms and have gotten some pretty good results using Meal Worms. Hopefully you will get some good feed back.




Side Note: As for me I use the All American Night Crawler!

I have seen firsthand action with mealworms with drrouter aka charles . He raises them himself and catch various fish with those worm . I have to say it's impressive how those fish react to mealworms like other various baits .

Looking at the worms Academy sells, it looks like there are two sizes, large and small. Are they both the same for fishing purposes? Or, do you get good results with a particular size?

You also frequently reference using a "bottom" technique. What does that consist of and how do you rig for it. I still need to come down and go fishing with you so I can learn this stuff. LOL

Large is perfect but buying them every trip gets expensive there is thread somewhere here about raising them yourself it's easy and gets cheap once you start get going on it .

Bottom fishing is letting your bait drop on bottom and make sure it's the hook is light enough to let the bait move around .

Fishing with banker /robert and few other folks here will be great learning experience .

raised them in college for herps ( .01 a worm after you get started)and they worked great bottom jigging, Roadrunner jigs or any stand up jig fished slow with a good pause. The varity of fish is pretty wide thatwill hit mealsworms, so keep a open mind on the area fished. channel and crappie at certain conditions are good bet. good luck
