Singin Drags (FCL 5-2-23)

Singin Drags (FCL 5-2-23) - 05/23/23 01:53 AM

Super nice day to be on the water...not too hot & not too cold. Water temps are reaching the high 80s on FCL & the bass are headed deeper. Caught 24 bass and somewhere around 30 sunnies today. The big sunfish was 15 ounces & the big bass was 6 pounds 1 oz. The drag was really singin on both of these fish. Got to the lake just before daybreak & got off the water at 3:30. Lots of boats & cast netters out today. Tried 6 different areas for sunfish, but only found them in 2 spots. They seem to show up a little later each year...maybe due to all the cast net activity on their home turf. Caught all the sunfish on Gulp Alve minnows & the bass were split between Swimbaits/Ned Rigs & Yum Dingers. All fish released back into the lake...

Thanks Chuck, Yesenia, thrash & Barry.

Yep...Memorial Day will be a zoo...shooting for Tuesday...hope there are a few fish left.

The Garmin note...when the bass flopped off my hook & fell there it just looked like a picture waiting to happen...as you can see there is a lot of "stuff" going on down there ! ninja

That’s a gorgeous trophy class native bluegill you caught (second pic) !

You don’t get many like that . . . good job and hope more are coming.

How deep are they bedding? Are they pushed out because of the castnetters?

Re: Singin Drags (FCL 5-2-23) - 05/26/23 01:23 PM

Thanks Doc

Chief...Bedding in 5-8 feet. I believe the castnetters have completely ruined about 60-70% of the areas I used to fish for sunfish...like just off reedbeds, creek channels & tank dams. Also, the bedding is taking place much later in the year on several areas of the lake when the castnetting slows down .
