Creek Fishing is on FIRE!

Creek Fishing is on FIRE! - 06/04/22 05:17 PM

Been fishing the creeks both in the hill country and southcentral Texas. The bite is on FIRE. Catching good numbers of quality Bluegill, Redear, Redbreast, and Hybrid Sunfish. Most of the fish are in the 8 to 9 inch range with a few going into the 10 inch range. Also catching some nice LMB all in the 1 to 3 pound range. Spawn is going on and the fish I have been catching are holding tight by weed/grass beds in 3 to 5 feet of water. Been fishing from 9am till 2pm. Most of the fish were caught using worms with both float and bottom techniques being used. Gulp Alive Worms were also used with good results. Some of the fish caught were taken to the dinner table by my good buddy Steve. The creeks I fished need a lot of RAIN but are holding up. Creek fishing in Texas. It just don't get any better. fish

Thanks Torry for the reply. I think the Hybrid Greens are a Bluegill mix. It could be Longear as well! confused 3

Side Note: There is a lot of inner breeding going on the sunfish family! juggle

You have them dialed in on the creeks for sure. Good job guys.

Side Note: During the summer times especially with all of the record heat, what time is the best Bluegill (sunfish) bite?

Re: Creek Fishing is on FIRE! - 07/23/22 04:58 PM

Thanks Gitter for the reply. cheers For me I am getting good results from 7am till 11am. For the most part I am usually heading home around 11am due to the heat. thumb

Thanks Chuck. I do not blame you for wanting to be heading home around 11am. It usually heats up after that. I am talking about temperatures not the fish bite.

I sure hope the Hill Country gets some soaking rains the next few weeks. A few cool fronts would be nice too! I love fly fishing up there for sunfish and small bass from mid-September through late October!
