coolphotos Yes Sir truly the BEST FISHING by far that I have experienced has been on the three river lakes. Dunlap, Mcqueeney, and Placid. With the loss of Dunlap and Placid it has now become the worst fishing experienced for me. East of Placid below Meadow was the best crappie fishing you can find in Texas. Me and my friends could catch limits just about any day of the year. We could also catch limits most of the time on Placid. Now just memories of what used to be some GREAT FISHING on the Guadalupe River.

Side Note: Great video and great pictures!

Oh yea! Back in the day there were some "SUPER" Bluegill/Sunfish contest conducted here in the Bluegill Forum. There were many of "WINNING FISH" caught on Lake Dunlap! Will never forget that 12.75" Redear caught by "TUN3R"! flehan Also the "Rionator" caught his fair share of winning fish during the monthly contest. Great memories for sure. rockon

The Guadalupe River below Canyon Dam had six dams. Dunlap, Mcqueeney, Placid, Meadow, Wood and Gonzales. Lake Wood Dam was the first to break several years ago. Lake Dunlap Dam broke in 2019 and all that is left is the river flowing with in it's banks. All of the docks are completely out of water. (No more Lake Dunlap) Lake Placid Dam broke the past October. The Dunlap Dam repairs are ongoing and hopefully in three years the lake will start filing back up. In the meantime the fishing as gone down hill. Back in the day Dunlap was one of the BEST sunfish lakes in Texas. There were also good populations of crappie, catfish, and bass! Oh yea the World Record Rio Grande Cichlid was caught off of Dunlap as well back in 2011. A lot of GREAT fishing spots went down the drain after the dam failure. A total shame! realmad

Side Note: Lake Placid and Lake Wood are no more as well and no repair dates have been scheduled. I was told that Lake Wood Dam is not going to be repaired. eeks

Oh man that sucks so bad. Hopefully they can salvage something down the road.... Far down as I have fished is Belton and Stillhouse Hallow.

Its a shame... wish I knew about these waters when I was stationed at Fort Hood.

Dunlap fishes a lot like a rugged river now. Not all bad in my humble opinion. The current can be a beast to paddle against though. There's still some good fish to catch if you can launch and safely navigate the river.
