Gill Busting with Fred and Mike !

Gill Busting with Fred and Mike ! - 08/10/21 07:28 PM

Myself with good friends Fred aka Rionator, and Mike aka USMC_ Guy, fished a Bluegill/Sunfish HOT SPOT and the bite was FANTASTIC. Fished from sunup till 1:30pm and caught over 200 good quality fish. The fish were all over a half pound with a bunch going over one pound. Fish were in the 7 to 11 inch range. Fred is a "Fish Finding Machine" and was able to find good numbers throughout the lake. Fish were caught in 6 to 8 feet of water by weed/grass beds. Fish were caught on worms, jigs, and Gulp Alive Minnows. All fish were released to fight again. Fishing with good friends on a "Bluegill/Sunfish Hot Spot". It just don't get any better! fish

Great to see Fred back in action ! Some really nice fish...glad to see that little lake producing such quality fish this late in the year. I was wondering if the hydrilla is growing much out past 6-7 feet deep ?

Never seen anyone that can find fish like Fred.

Glad you guys got out on the water together. Reminds me of old posts I used to see on TFF. grin

Thanks SK, Steve, Leo, Yesenia, CarlB, and Doc for the replies. cheers CarlB. I hear ya. I do fish from a boat every once and a while. However I would take a nice bank along the Nueces River or West Nueces any day over a boat. That is just me. Love my bank fishing. hooked Doc: Yes Sir the good ol' days for sure. Fred did say that he learned a lot from you and reading the side scan. coolio

Thanks Curtis, Torry, Bob, and pop r for the replies. cheers Curtis: We did not catch any Rios. I am starting to catch more and I think September through Mid October are going to be good months for the Rios. hooked Bob: Mike still lives in East Texas but has plans on moving back to the San Antonio area. He hopes to move back in the area in the next year or two. We were talking about the times we fished together with you and Mutt and the great fish dinners we had. Good memories for sure. Hopefully we can meet up for a few more. cheers

Beautiful fish. My specialty is white bass, but I would love to get into big bluegills or redears (we called them cherry gills as a boy). Thing is, I know nothing about which lakes to fish and how to locate them from my boat. Can any of point me to a post or tutorial that covers this?

Sorry for the belated reply as been a bit busy.
Thanks for the pics. Chuck and hoping some of the jigs were those you're passing along.
Looking forward to next thread, and may God bless.
