FCL Report From 3/3/21 - 03/04/21 11:49 AM

Doc & I fished Fayette yesterday from 8:30 til 5:30. Wind was light all day which was awesome ! Lots of boats out...water temp in most areas was 67-68 degrees. Started off the day busting the trolling motor prop in half at launch, but as I have seen from past experience, the spot lock still works...if you don't mind the vibration. Now to the fishing...We had an awesome day...ended up with 115 total. (around 40 bass, 74 sunfish & 1 catfish) The biggest sunny was a red ear that went 11". We also had 3 over 10" & around 10 in the 9-10" range...very few small ones under 7". We tried several locations, but the sunfish were only present in that one spot. The big bass of the day was a "rescue" fish. We spotted her thrashing around & ended up netting the fish. It had gotten a decent size Tilapia wedged in its throat/gills. We performed surgery & watched her swim away...hopefully we will meet again under different circumstances...This bass is the one in black & white on the collage page of photos. Around 2/3 of the fish were caught on Gulp Alive minnows & a1/3 on BOC (worms) . We also got a few on swimbaits...Cant wait til next week...[Linked Image]

Let the Bluegill/Sunfish Season begin! I am sure many more Fayette catches will follow! Good job guys. I know it's early but are you seeing any signs of spawning? thumb

Thanks Cat...Chuck...A very small number of the fish were "peeing" when you grabbed them, so its is still too early, but it should start soon. Side note: This is 2 weeks before they showed up last year in this area...I had thought it would be 1-2 weeks later...we were pleasantly surprised...

Thanks Steve. I have also caught some Bluegill in a local creek last week and they were urinating as well. I think another week or two before the spring spawn kicks in. thumb

Steve was the Doctor on the lake yesterday. He saved the life of that big bass by making a difficult extraction of an 8 inch tilapia that was stuck in that bass’s gil plate. She swam off with vigor when he put her back in the water !

A great day on the water. Beautiful late winter day and plenty of fish. So good to get into some perch ! grin

Great post Vogey. Super good numbers on both bass and sunfish. Are you catching the bass in the same areas of the sunnies? Usually the sunfish take over some the bass nest after the bass have spawned. Again super job guys. woot

Side Note: Sorry to hear about the trolling motor prop. whip

Tom... Boat traffic was heavy last week & very light yesterday. No reason the think that this season won't be stellar...

Thanks Vogey. I remember the days way back when I fished Fayette the week days were the best times to fish. Weekends were another story. Keep up the great fishing.

Side Note: Got a 2pm trip lined up for some Blue Cats.
