Finally Some Winter Bluegill. (Water body Record included). - 02/17/21 09:31 PM
Made it out one more time before this WINTER STORM hit south central Texas and the hill country. Made the walk along the trails of Lost Maples State Park to several fishing holes. Fishing for the Bluegills was tough due to the fact very heavy grass beds were thick in the water hole I was fishing. I used both float and bottom techniques and caught five very nice Bluegill including one that was 8.5" in length, healthy, and fat. The certified weight of the fish was right at .50 lb. The minimum weight required for a fresh water body record. Paper work was completed and sent to the Texas Parks and Wildlife for the Lost Maples State Park Bluegill record. The bar has been set. Rounding out the catch was a bass that was 14" in length, and seven nice Rainbow Trout. Kept five trout for the dinner table. The Bluegill were caught by a drop off in about five feet of water hanging in heavy grass beds. The trout and bass were caught in about 8 feet of water holding close to the bottom. All fish were caught on the bait of champions. Worms. Getting some good Bluegill action during the winter and enjoying a Rainbow Trout dinner . It just don't get any better !
