Fayette Buzzard Cover - 11/29/20 05:54 PM

I got a truck cover to hopefully not have a repeat of the buzzard damage to my truck parked at the boat ramp parking lot the other week.

Took about 5 minutes to put on and Im sure it will be a pain when its stinking hot putting it on, but $1500 to $1750 in damage by those buzzards gets expensive.

That will work. I have heard reports over the years about Buzzards causing damage to vehicles parked at area lakes. Bastrop had a problem with them years ago.

They do have buzzard warning signs posted at both ramps. Throughout my years fishing there I have had them on my truck at least 3 or 4 times previous to the other week that I know of via buzzard poop on vehicle. Those times they only do dood on the vehicle. This last time they ruined the windshield and bed cover seal. As well as minor scratch marks on the hood and top of the truck.

Well if it does not work Steve the only thing you can do is live with the potential buzzard damage and pay for it if it happens. The cover was around $140. My insurance deductible is is $250. This is the first time damage has happened to me there since I have been fishing Fayette. I have seen buzzards there at Oak Thicket on vehicles several times over the years, my vehicle included. I fish 60 to 70 days a year there at a minimum now that I have expanded my fishing to targeting bluegill at least in the summer. Dont know what else to do except quit fishing there. Summerville is about the same drive for me. Maybe I will switch lakes and start targeting white bass, hybrid stripers and crappie.

Haha. Most people dont carry $250 deductible which is what the damage is going to cost me. My damage will run about $1750 when its done. I think if they did not allow any fish cleaning anywhere near the ramp, they could really eliminate most of the problem with the buzzards hanging out there. When you have the tilapia netters cleaning a large amount of fish there at the shoreline by the parking lot, buzzards are going to be attracted. They need to have fish cleaning stations set up which they dont have now. Because of the buzzard damage, If I had another lake closer to me than Fayette, I would probably go there instead.
