Fayette 9/25/20 (The End is Near) - 09/26/20 02:55 AM

Fished Fayette today solo...Doc had family errands & early next week looks like it could be kind of windy & chilly ? Anyway, water temp really dropped from last week...was 81-82 when I launched at daybreak & 86-88 by later in the afternoon. The wind was non existent today ! Fished from daybreak until 4:00 pm & ended up with 178 total...10 Rios all 7-9 inches, 2 small Tilapia, 3 small bass & the rest various sunfish types. Bite was pretty consistent all day, but between 2pm & 3 pm the action was non stop. Fished 7 different areas including reed beds, trees, rip rap & offshore colonies. I think the sunfish are starting to scatter more and it looks like they may totally disappear in around 2-4 weeks. Most fish caught on Gulp minnows, but also had quite a few on the Gulp crickets...All fish released. Totally missed seeing Tom out there today. Now that he has his "Super Secret Spots" he is pretty hard to find...especially when he has his camo on.... also there were more boats on the lake than I have seen in a while...I also noticed some floating fish, but NOTHING like last year... Sorry I missed you Steve. I fished over on Hog Point for bass for the first few hours. Then tried the road bed area when I finally got around to fishing for the blue gills. I spent most of my time back in the trees in my secret spot where you and Doc saw me a couple weeks ago. You know the secret spot I showed you where I was catching them. I think my mistake was not fishing for the bluegills in some deeper water. I was seeing a lot of fish in the 12 to 14 foot range with my Livescope but I was dragging a C Rig for bass. There were to many fish that I was seeing for there not to be some nice bluegills in the mix. Im probably going to fish Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn next week.

Tom...Good luck on Big Sam & Toledo.

Yesenia...Next year when you guys decide to come let me know in advance & maybe we can meet up. Would love to show you the lake if you have never been.

Curtis...Funny you should ask about the fish count for the year. I an in the planning stages of a "Best of 2020" video, and on there I plan on revealing the approximate total count for the year as well as showing some footage from lake "Notfayette"...

Vogey,
My wife and I was there about 4 weeks ago and tried to fish reeds and trees for a couple hours with no success. Moved to the input area and ended up catching 88 fish by 2 pm fishing the input area. My wife loves to fish and does very good. Your previous help sure paid off.
Getting old and not sure how many years left to mess with the boat but I did get a less expensive Panfish St. Croix Ultralight. Used it in Lake Travis and just love it. Travis not so good though.
In the past I have fished for almost everything fresh water has to offer including tying flies for trout in the Catskill mountains and in Colorado trout streams. Fishing salmon in upstate NY and Michigan. Northern Pike in the St Laurence River. Walleyes in Canada. Ice fishing for Yellow Perch in Lake Ontario was also great. The last few years I have been jug fishing Blue Catfish. I toss out 30 jugs, stay with them and am off the lake shortly after noon. This year a bit slow but last year, my best day was 38 Blues. I keep nothing under 17 in and nothing over 15 lbs. The freezer is full.
We do love to eat some Bluegill but are limited with time as the wife still works. I am interested what you look for in finding new spots to fish. We did see you near trees one day, but I will not mark a boat with intention of returning to their spot.
Maybe in a couple weeks we will try again and if not we will be there early next year.
Thanks again, Larry

Vogey I'm pretty sure that all of the sunfish head to a clinic for the winter to have the holes in their lips cosmetically repaired and let the bass deal with you for a few months.

Congrats on another great day for you Steve. I put in beside you at the ramp that morning. I was having a little motor trouble(dirt dobbers nest on my throttle cable) but finally got that worked out. I was there mainly for bass but everywhere I threw my dropshot rig I would catch a few sunfish. They were decent size but no where as bulky as the ones I was catching in the spring. I ended up having one of my best days for bass. I plan to get back out there later this week. Do you think this cool front and cold mornings this week will change up what seems to be working?

John...I wish we could find that clinic this winter !

Alan...The springtime sunfish are bigger for sure. I think the sunfish bite will be diminishing each week in October until it's gone completely. Sure hope I am wrong, but that's how it's been the last 3 years. On the bright side, the bass bite should be improving...would like to get some bass tips from you in about a month. It seems the shad balls start moving in the creeks as the water cools & the bass follow...at least that's a pattern that has worked pretty well for me in the past...Glad to hear you got into the bass this week...that's real encouraging news...
