A Nice Bunch of Rios!

A Nice Bunch of Rios! - 08/13/20 09:20 PM

Myself and fishing buddy Steve made it out to one of our "Rio Holes". The bite was AWESOME! We fished from 7am till 1pm and caught over 50 Rios. We also caught some Bluegill. Worms was the bait used. Fish were caught in 2 to 4 feet water holding by grass beds. Most of the fish were released but some were kept for Steve's dinner table. All of the Rios were in the 9 to 10 inch range with the biggest measuring 10.50". Fish were fat, healthy, and full of fight. Catching a bunch of hungry Rios. It just don't get any better. fish

Nice haul gentlemen!
In the heat of the summer it seems like the pan fish are more cooperative. I like the small water environment too.

When we would catch some really big ones in Spring, we would grill them on the half shell like redfish. It takes a pretty big Rio to do it but back then we would keep some of the bigger ones in that season just for that purpose. Rios have a different taste than most anything we catch down here for whatever reason.
