Fished Lady Bird Lake this week with my good friend Jeff. Got a late start. We fished from 10am till about 2pm and caught about 30 nice Bluegill and Redear, along with four nice bass in the 2 to 3 pound range. Most of the fish were caught between 10am and 12noon. After 12noon the bite slowed down to almost a complete shut down. Spoke with several other anglers on the water who were having a good day fishing for bass. Bluegill were all in the 9" range. Most of the Redear were in the 9" range with two in the 10" range. All fish were caught on the west side and were in water 10 to 12 feet deep. Fish were all by grass beds. All of the sunfish were caught using the "Bait of Vogey" aka Gulp Alive Minnows. The Emerald Shiner got the best results. Drop shot method was also used. The bass were all caught using small crank baits with colors of choice being Chartreuse/Black. A slow/medium retrieve worked the best. A couple of the anglers we had spoken with stated that the bite is very good between sunup and around 9am. All fish were released to fight again. A great day fishing the LBL.
